“The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work.”

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (NRSV)

“Be the change you want to see in the world.” ~ Mahatma Ghandi

This quote from Ghandi has inspired countless people to take an active part in creating positive change in the world. Whether we are concerned with poverty, hunger, violence or injustice, God calls us to adopt an active role to help change things for the better.

So it is with the Church. Ready or not, the Church has changed, is changing. The Church today meets social justice needs in our communities that did not exist at the same level fifty years ago: homelessness, rampant food insecurity, inadequate mental health care. At the same time, a wave of secularism has swept our country since 1955, when St. Bart’s began. Families are more likely to go to a soccer game or a big box store than come to church. With a unique, non-profit business model that depends on financial contributions from our members for more than 80% of our expenses, the Church – and St. Bart’s as part of her body – is struggling to find new ways to meet the needs of the world.

We have been diligent in securing grant monies for our work in the community. During 2014, St. Bart’s received four grants: from Episcopal Charities, the San Francisco Foundation FAITHS program, the StopWaste Program, and the City of Livermore Arts Commission. However, these funds cover largely mission expenses, and not our daily overhead. Combined with fundraisers and building usage fees, our total non-pledge income amounts to only 23% of our budget.

As parishioners, your active participation supplies the rest. A full 77% of our budget is dependent upon you. Members of the Stewardship Commission have begun contacting the St. Bart’s community. They would like to speak with you about the ways that St. Bart’s has met the needs of your community and family, and discuss our financial plans for the future. Please take time to meet with them. Be part of the change!!

Pledging

In order for us to manage our budget, Church members are encouraged to pledge a certain amount on either a weekly or monthly basis to fund the operation of the church for the current financial year. With these pledges, it is possible to plan for a certain level of expenditure and the Vestry is then able to develop and manage an operating budget.

To make a pledge of financial support and to share your talents and time with St. Bart's, please click the pledge button on the left.

Capital expenditures, which are defined as those expenditures outside of the normal day to day operating budget, are funded from a separate Capital Fund. We are now in the final year of a three-year Capital Campaign and are accepting pledges of support for our Capital Fund. More details about the Capital Campaign can be found here.

Contributions

In fulfillment of your pledge, we are pleased to accept checks in the mail or placed in the collection plate on Sunday. Receipts will be provided for tax purposes.

We are also able to accept contributions online using the secure services of PayPal. You can make your regular pledge payment by credit card (or PayPal account, if you have one) to either the Operating Fund or Capital Fund, or make a special donation, by clicking the Donate button.

Please make sure you designate the donation for the desired purpose by using the "Donation to be used for:" link on the PayPal Donation verification page. Undesignated donations will be applied to the General Operating Fund.
